Contract manufacturing news in brief
Dr Reddy's, China Aoxing Pharmaceutical, Cook Pharmica and Alpha Biologics have all recently announced contract manufacturing news.
Dr Reddy's has landed an exclusive 10 year supply deal with German firm Sygnis, the first long-term supply agreement for a biological molecule in the Indian firm's history.Dr Reddy's will provide AX200, a biological molecule under development for the treatment of stroke and other neurodegenerative disorders. The contract secures the supply of AX200 far beyond clinical development and into proposed marketing of the final product.
"Biopharmaceutical Services is a fast growing business segment globally with a limited number of service providers," said Dr. Cartikeya Reddy, head of biologics at Dr Reddy's "Our strategic decision to exclusively produce a biological molecule for a partner is a first in the history of Dr. Reddy's and fits very well within our Custom Pharmaceutical Services' business model."China Aoxing Pharmaceutical has also this week announced its selection as a key manufacturer of tilidine tablets and capsules by the China State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA).
Tilidine is a highly regulated narcotic used in cancer pain management currently not available in China. China Aoxing will now represent the only drug manufacturer producing the product in the country, and plans to launch the medicine in late 2008.Cook Pharmica, the contract manufacturing services division of Cook Medical, has signed an agreement with Inspiration Biopharmaceuticals to carry out development work for the firm's lead haemophilia compound.Cook will carry out the work on the intravenous Factor IX product at its development lab in Bloomington, Indiana, but further terms of the deal were not disclosed.Alpha Biologics also recently landed a contract with drug development firm Synairgen.
The contract biomanufacturing firm will be working with Synairgen to develop a scaleable manufacturing process for the company's growth factor product in order to support pre-clinical and clinical development.
